If you're anything like me, you are constantly thinking about healthier living, about losing weight - not so much because of outside factors but more because you never used to be this shape... you don't feel comfortable and you really don't fit in your jeans anymore...
Buying new clothes though - you're holding back on that as it kinda means you're settling for the shape you are now and you are definitely not doing that!
So you're stuck with clothes that don't fit,... really.. with hair ties that hold your pants up until you fit in them again.
A problem I have though with this already tough situation is that I live nowhere near a gym, I am SO not a gym person AND my husband works all days, any hours - it is pretty much impossible to schedule group workouts or group sports around it... and I actually love team sports. I used to play a high level of field hockey so it's not like I don't 'do' sports... I just haven't for 10+ years!
And the lifestyle we have where I am home with the kids (while I also work from home) and my husband's schedule, simply doesn't allow for me having a certain day a week for sports.
I figured; An online program is definitely what I need!
So when Misfit NZ offered me a spot in her 6 week online program I jumped at the chance!
This was the first of this particular online program (Fitter, Faster, Stronger) and we were offering ourselves up as guinea pigs :)
We started with a Goal Setting Worksheet and a Pre Activity Questionnaire - to give our trainer (Nikki) a good idea about where we stand, where we want to go and what our minimum goal was. This program is designed to make changes in your life that STICK.
My main goal was to at least move a little every day...we have a little bit of gym equipment at home so I picked to go on our excercycle for at least 15mins each day.
But overall; just live healthier and move more.
The week-ish before the program we received this AMAZING PDF file from the Nutritionist linked to the program and in it there was some awesome food ideas. Ideas for pre work out snacks, post workout, great smoothy ideas, etc. etc.
It sparked me instantly to buy loads of the ingredients and try things out that I had not tried before and I definitely found some healthy snacks I never knew I loved! Read; celery with peanut butter... who knew!!
I felt SO empowered and ready to start - so we did!
To be honest, I really do not enjoy excercising like others do. You know how people say they feel refreshed and energetic after excercise? Well, I definitely don't... tired... wanting/needing a sleep is how I feel!!
I'm not sure if I am alone in this but all I know is; it is super hard to stay motivated when you don't feel energised and do not have anyone else around you that could drag you there... lol
I tried to get my husband to start moving more too but alas... it was me and I would have to find my own motivation...
But then there was Nikki. She checked up on me every week - to see how I was feeling, what I was doing and sharing her videos and ideas on what else I could do or how I could try to stay motivated. When I was getting headaches she reminded me to drink more water, when the cycling became boring she suggested some other excercises I could do to keep it interesting (it totally worked!)
She was the one telling me to just do it and hinting how I would love myself more if I did... She did it in a very personal and gentle way but enough push to keep you going - there was definitely no yelling involved (ugh! don't you hate it when you see those sorts of 'coaches'? that would NEVER work with me!!)
It meant that I was supported the whole way through and I managed to keep doing what I set out to do!! It meant that I could be proud of taking care of me and taking 15mins a day to get healthier.
Food wise, it has made me look into other foods more and even though I have always loved salads and healthy foods, it helped me realise what the benefits are of eating something before you exercise and after for example. I gained a little bit of knowledge about food - I think getting more support from the nutritionist further down the program would have been amazing as I craved more info (instead of chocolate, ha!)
So now - months after I did the program I feel I need to do it again - I need another fix to get back into it. It got cold, I got sick, I didn't feel like it anymore... you know.. the usual excuses!! I think I need that person to be accountable to, so on the days I would normally flake I won't out of obligation to them...
The only wish?
That I'd have her (Nikki) as my personal trainer - living closer to her.
That kick up the butt regularly, someone checking up on me, was exactly what I needed.
